Dark in Death: In Death, Book 46, Hörbuch, Digital, 504min
Lieutenant Eve Dallas returns in the new novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense, and takes on a case of death imitating art... It was a stab in the dark. On a chilly February night, during a screening of Psycho in midtown, someone sunk an ice pick into the back of Chanel Rylan's neck, then disappeared quietly into the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times Square. To Chanel's best friend, who had just slipped out of the theater for a moment to take a call, it felt as unreal as the ancient black-and-white movie up on the screen. But Chanel's blood ran red, and her death was anything but fictional. Then, as Eve Dallas puzzles over a homicide that seems carefully planned and yet oddly personal, she receives a tip from an unexpected source: an author of police thrillers who recognizes the crime - from the pages of her own book. Dallas doesn't think it's coincidence, since a recent strangulation of a sex worker resembles a scene from her writing as well. Cops look for patterns of behavior: similar weapons, similar MOs. But this killer seems to find inspiration in someone else's imagination, and if the theory holds, this may be only the second of a long-running series. The good news is that Eve and her billionaire husband Roarke have an excuse to curl up in front of the fireplace with their cat, Galahad, reading mystery stories for research. The bad news is that time is running out before the next victim plays an unwitting role in a murderer's deranged private drama - and only Eve can put a stop to a creative impulse gone horribly, destructively wrong. From the author of Echoes in Death, this is the latest of the edgy, phenomenally popular police procedurals that Publishers Weekly calls "inventive, entertaining, and clever." Language: English. Hollywood Animal: A Memoir , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1706min
He spent his earliest years in post-WWII refugee camps. He came to America and grew up in Cleveland - stealing cars, rolling drunks, battling priests, nearly going to jail. He became the screenwriter of the worldwide hits Basic Instinct, Jagged Edge, and Flashdance. He also wrote the legendary disasters Showgirls and Jade. The rebellion never ended, even as his films went on to gross more than a billion dollars at the box office and he became the most famous - or infamous - screenwriter in Hollywood. Joe Eszterhas is a complex and paradoxical figure: part outlaw and outsider combined with equal parts romantic and moralist. More than one person has called him “the devil.” He has been referred to as “the most reviled man in America.” But Time asked, “If Shakespeare were alive today, would his name be Joe Eszterhas?” and he was the first screenwriter picked as one of the movie industry’s 100 Most Powerful People. Although he is often accused of sexism and misogyny, his wife is his best friend and equal partner. Considered an apostle of sex and violence, he is a churchgoer who believes in the power of prayer. For many years the ultimate symbol of Hollywood excess, he has moved his family to Ohio and immersed himself in the Midwestern lifestyle he so values. Controversial, fearless, extremely talented, and totally unpredictable, the author of the best-selling American Rhapsody and National Book Award nominee Charlie Simpson’s Apocalypse has surprised us yet again: he has written a memoir like no other. On one level, Hollywood Animal is a shocking and often devastating look inside the movie business. It intimately explores the concept of fame and gives us a never-before-seen look at the famous. Eszterhas reveals the fights, the deals, the extortions, the backstabbing, and the sex, drugs, and rock’n’roll world that is Hollywood. But there are many more levels to this extraordinary work. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Brick. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/bkot/000166/bk_bkot_000166_sample.mp3. Spawn of the Desert , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 106min
As tense, short story Westerns go, W.C. Tuttle's "Spawn of the Desert", set in the 1850s rugged Southwest mountains, is a splendid, fast-paced example of the classic genre of tales of gold and silver mining towns run by ruthless men, and inhabited by an eclectic population of miners, gamblers, gunmen, drunks, hardscrabble women, and the obligatory "colorful" characters. Tuttle (1883-1969) was one of the most prolific Western writers of his day, with more than 40 novels and short stories to his credit. "Spawn of the Desert" takes place in Calico Town, an adobe-hued silver-mining town, carved out of the sheer rock face of silver-rich Calico Mountain, which rises almost vertically above the town. In its desert setting, the heat is unbearable, the rain never falls, and morals are in short supply. Into this god-forsaken corner of the new West come two remarkable characters: the worldly-wise, heavily bearded, majestic Le Saint and his young partner, gunslinger Duke Steele. Over two ever-challenging days, the Saint and Steele take on the villainy of Silver Sleed - Calico's unchallenged boss - and wrestle with their compassion for Sleed's 20-year-old daughter, Luck. At the heart of the conflict is a tragic backstory of revenge that has driven Le Saint on a two-decade quest across the country. "Spawn of the Desert" is narrated by C. James Moore, whose 2015 narration of Own Wister's sweeping Western novel, The Virginian, captured in thrilling detail the expansion of the West and the drama of Wyoming's vast cattle ranges, emerging cities, romance, and frontier justice. This short story "Spawn of the Desert" takes the listener on a fast-paced journey through the harsh, unforgiving landscape of the American West's legendary tales of riches, jealousy, pathos, vices, violence, and love. ungekürzt. Murder on Lake Haverly: Maye West Mysteries , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 382min
I am admitting up front that I was a realtor for 30 years in Washington State and in Phoenix, Arizona, which will give this fictional story a ring of truth. Several of the characters and events resemble those from real life. Most of the characters and events are made up out of whole cloth. The sexy boyfriend was just for fun. My only boyfriend is the love of my life for 55 years. Our murder mystery starts off as Maye's new agent, Sarah McClanahan, discovers her clients with crossbow bolts in their bloody bodies in her new listing. Maye's sexy boyfriend, sheriff's deputy Frank Singleton, has his hands full investigating this crime and others that appear to be piling up. Meanwhile Maye West sells the deal of a lifetime: four large lake front properties surrounding a beautiful Lake Haverly in Punkin Center, Arizona. The first three sales are easy peasy. The fourth seller, James Crandall, a well-known hot head, challenges Maye's expertise. Her clients are a New York attorney Miranda Feldman and her writer husband, Joshua. While out fishing, Joshua discovers a body in their Shangri-La. It gets complicated when the coroner identifies the body as James Crandall, Maye's toughest seller. At the memorial his neighbors scatter his ashes in the lake, James shows up madder than a hornet. The coroner and Frank, humiliated by the misidentification, take refuge in The Recovery Room for a drink to commiserate. Unfortunately, one drink led to another until Maye calls upon her other agent Ed McGinley to help rescue them. They discover that managing two drunks is like herding cats. Stay tuned for more shootings and a couple of love stories, father, and son reunion, a jailbreak, and more mayhem are in store for our intrepid realtors and friends. ungekürzt. Language: English. Tel Aviv Noir , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 526min
Akashic Books continues its groundbreaking series of original noir anthologies, launched with the summer '04 award-winning best seller Brooklyn Noir. Each book is comprised of all-new stories, each one set in a distinct neighborhood or location within the respective city. For Tel Aviv Noir, Etgar Keret and Assaf Gavron have masterfully assembled some of Israel's top contemporary writers into a compulsively readable collection. From the introduction by Etgar Keret: "In spite of its outwardly warm and polite exterior, Tel Aviv has quite a bit to hide. At any club, most of the people dancing around you to the sounds of a deep-house hit dedicated to peace and love have undergone extensive automatic-weapons training and a hand-grenade tutorial... The workers washing the dishes in the fluorescent-lit kitchen of that same club are Eritrean refugees who have crossed the Egyptian border illegally, along with a group of bedouins smuggling some high-quality hash, which the deejay will soon be smoking on his little podium, right by the busy dance floor filled with drunks, coked-up lawyers, and Ukrainian call girls whose pimp keeps their passports in a safe two streets away. Don't get me wrong - Tel Aviv is a lovely, safe city. Most of the time, for most of its inhabitants. But the stories in this collection describe what happens the rest of the time, to the rest of its inhabitants. From one last cup of coffee at a caf targeted by a suicide bomber, through repeat visits from a Yiddish-speaking ghost, to an organized tour of mythological crime scenes that goes terribly wrong, the stories of Tel Aviv Noir reveal the concealed, scarred face of this city that we love so much." Featuring brand-new stories by: Etgar Keret, Gadi Taub, Lavie Tidhar, Deakla Keydar, Matan Hermoni, Julia Fermentto, Gon Ben Ari, Shimon Adaf, Alex Epstein, Antonio Ungar, Gai Ad, Assaf Gavron, Silje Bekeng, and Yoav Katz. ungekürzt. How to Deal With Alcoholics And Alcoholism: Steps And Tips Dealing With an Alcoholic , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 64min
Are you trying to deal with an alcoholic, a friend or relative that alcoholism is their way of living? It can be really difficult living or dealing with a close friend or a family member that is drinking to get 'drunk' one, two times a week (and in a lot of cases, daily). If you find yourself in this situation, I believe my book will help you out. I will first share two of my experiences and stories and then I will offer suggestions as to what I feel may help you. I, the author of this book, have lived and dealt with several drunks in my life. I know the symptoms, and I know how to deal with them. This book has two true stories of mine. Alcohol is addictive. You will find many people who will argue with this statement, but alcohol fits all the definitions of a harmful and addictive drug; 1. You need to take more and more of it to get the same effect 2. Your body becomes physically dependent on alcohol. 3. People die from alcohol abuse. An alcoholic is someone who has become physically dependent on alcohol. Alcoholism is permanent, it cannot be cured. An ex-alcoholic is simply one who has not had alcohol for a long time. If the "ex"-alcoholic has one drink, they are hooked again and have to go through the whole drying out process again. Given the toxic nature of alcohol, if the substance was discovered today, it would never be licensed as a drug or food. It is only the entrenched nature of the alcohol industry and the fact that so many jobs depend on it that makes it politically unacceptable to ban alcohol. Not only does alcoholism effect the one drinking, but it affects everyone around them too, from family and friends, to total strangers. The alcoholic does not see their drinking as a problem. When it comes to driving, they always feel as though they are fine behind the wheel. How to Deal With Alcoholics And Alcoholism. Thousands of people die each year due to drunk driving. Most people know of at least ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Claton Butcher. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/002278/bk_acx0_002278_sample.mp3.
