With No Gravity
With Northwest Indiana roots and a strong all ages following, Lying Delilah is a breath of fresh air to Chicago's guitarist dominated music scene. Fronted by Jodi Rosenthal on keys with her sensual voice and complimented by Steve Pesich, bass, and Andrew Dumaresq, drums, Lying Delilah have begun to create a stir with solid live performances. The band started with just Jodi, a self taught pianist, who began to dabble with song writing at the age of seventeen. After writing a few songs, Jodi realized music was where her heart was and invited long time friends and multi-instrumentalists Steve and Andrew to join her and form full time band, Lying Delilah. All agree that it was 'instant magic' when they sat down and began feeding off each other's ideas, ultimately writing debut album, Polygraph (February 2005) and most recently releasing With No Gravity (October 2008). Both albums convey an unexplainable, adventurous sound. Jodi, no doubt, faces comparisons to female songstresses Fiona Apple and Tori Amos with her undeniable piano skills and heart melting vocals, but with the addition of Steve and Andrew and an eclectic combination of influences including Ben Folds, Etta James, Fiona Apple, Grace Potter, They Might Be Giants and Primus, the band has been able to defy such comparisons and combine various musical styles to create a sound unique and refreshing to today's music industry. Lying Delilah's songs transcend any set genre and the album has a style of singer-songwriter meets jazz and jam band, all topped off with a Broadway musical feel that makes the band's sound both different and distinct. Even more impressive than a solid first album are Lying Delilah's live performances that capture the audience with the first melodic piano phrases and Jodi's jaw dropping voice. When the rest of the band joins in creating an explosively smooth sound, it truly is instant magic. Performances are taken to the next level when songs are extended with complex instrumental sequences creating a progressive rock feel. This is where the band is strongest with dizzying piano melodies, prominent bass lines and a drum beat that completes the band's full sound. Such musical developments allow the band to satiate and appeal to the tastes of a wide, diverse audience.- Shop: odax

The Epic Side Of Metal

Crossing Over
The Shannon-Goodrich Ensemble is an original world-jazz outfit formed in late 2004, fronted by Melbourne, Australian musicians, Clare Shannon (piano) and Elissa Goodrich (vibraphone). It sees these two respected artists move out from better known roles as supporting musicians for bands such as Bahia, Combo La Revelacion, Phil Bywater's Buried Treasure and Wendy Rule to front their own ensemble as co-soloists and composers. The Shannon-Goodrich Ensemble's music is the unique culmination of diverse musical backgrounds (latin, jazz, world and contemporary classical) and a lifelong friendship. 2005 saw the Ensemble record and release their debut CD Crossing Over, a project inspired by Astor Piazzolla and prose from Amnesty International's Anthology, distributed through Newmarket music in Australia, supported by Arts Victoria. In 2006 the Ensemble undertook a new music project - Worlds Within Worlds - in collaboration with Australian-Iranian translator / writer - Ali Alizadeh, creating a feature-length body of work inspired by Ancient Sufi poet Rumi's prose. This new collaborative composition is supported by The Sidney Myer Fund. The song cycle component was performed for Voiceprints, Melbourne International Arts Festival 2007 to critical acclaim. About Worlds Within Worlds CD: The Shannon-Goodrich Ensemble's Worlds Within Worlds CD (Newmarket music - in Australia) (2008) is supported by Arts Victoria Rocks. Worlds Within Worlds compositions and recording feature some of Australia's finest jazz, Latin and world musicians in unique combinations: Clare Shannon (composer, piano) and Elissa Goodrich (composer, vibraphone & marimba), with guest artists: Ria Soemardjo (voice), Phil McLeod (accordion & cello) Phil Bywater (saxophone), Anita Hustas and Tamara Murphy (double bass), Alejandro 'Alex' Vega (percussion). Worlds Within Worlds' instrumental and vocal tracks explore Rumi's themes of love, loss and awakening across the spectrum of emotions. Ancient Persian rhythms and modes can be found in the original tunes which push the expected boundaries between Latin, contemporary jazz and worlds idioms. What the critics have said about Worlds Within Worlds performances: "Inspired jazz poetry" Melbourne Weekly Review, 21.04.2007 With "translations by Iranian-born poet Ali Alizadeh ... Exquisite calm, torn by spiritual longing. ... an ear-opening testimony ...in an exciting new format." Valentine
Digitally remastered edition. Includes booklet with 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork with previously unseen photos and new interview. Rock Candy is no stranger to bad timing and misfired opportunities. For most people the results are of no great consequence but occasionally, the repercussions - especially with years of hindsight to put the loss into perspective - are truly lamentable. The failure of Valentine's sole album is one such case in point. If any melodic rock band should have made a huge international splash then this should have been the one. Formed in New York during the mid-'80's and fronted by the sensational vocalist Hugo Valenti, the band soon made friends amongst the NY music business cognoscenti, leading to major management opportunities (Michael Bolton's manager Louis Levin) and a coveted major label deal with Columbia Records. It was easy to see why they attracted such a passionate reaction, armed with music that was not only powerful and memorable but also displayed a songwriting ability that left the competition in the dust. Amazingly the band's fortunes took a nose dive when executive changes at the label left them high and dry, forcing them to switch to another company, Giant Records, helmed by industry heavyweight Irving Azoff. Produced by Neil Kernon (Autograph, Queensryche, Lynch Mob) the album was eventually released in late 1990, and it received a great reception from the melodic rock aficionados. Packed with incredible songs, ranging from gilt-lined AOR such as 'Runnin' On Luck Again', 'Too Much Is Never Enough', to the pomp blast of 'Where Are You Now' and Once In A Lifetime'. But the icing on the cake must surely be 'Never Said It Was Gonna Be Easy', one of the greatest power ballads of all time.- Shop: odax
