Three Cheers for Me: The Bandy Papers, Book 1 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 653min
With his disturbingly horse-like face and a pious distaste for strong drink and bad language, young Bartholomew Bandy doesn't seem cut out for life in the armed services, as we meet him at the start of World War I. Yet he not only survives the dangers and squalor of the infantry trenches, he positively thrives in the Royal Flying Corps, revealing a surprising aptitude for splitarsing Sopwith Camels and shooting down the Hun. He even manages to get the girl. Through it all, he never loses his greatest ability - to open his mouth and put his foot in it. Donald Jack's blackly humorous Bandy memoirs are classics of their kind. Against an un-shrinking depicted backdrop of war and its horrors, his anti-hero's adventures are both gripping and shockingly funny. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Robin Gabrielli. That's Me in the Middle: The Bandy Papers, Volume 2 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 708min
Bartholomew Bandy has become an air ace. On the ground, he causes disasters wherever he goes, but in the air, he's deadly, shooting down dozens of German planes in the course of thrilling aerial combats. To the amazement of all who know him, he becomes Lieutenant Colonel Bandy, and thanks to his new rank, he meets all sorts of people, including his fiancée's memorable family. As a handy but disposable war hero, he encounters a number of hair-raising adventures, not to mention English plumbing and an unforgettable honeymoon night. That's Me in the Middle is exciting, full of military action in the trenches and in the air, and, as it continues to flirt with history, very funny. ungekürzt. Language: English. Me Bandy, You Cissie: Volume IV of The Bandy Papers , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 625min
Peace has broken out, and World War I flying ace and all-round chancer Bartholomew Bandy isn’t exactly making a success of being a commercial pilot in the USA. But when a job lot of aircraft bits purchased with the last of his pay turns out to be a complete Vickers Vimy bomber, he feels his luck has changed. With the help of his very tall, very sweet girlfriend Cissie, and the hindrance of his very short, very bad, and beautiful girlfriend Dasha, Bart smashes (literally) straight into the exciting new world of the movies. Not an ideal career for someone whose face, as he says himself, resembles that of a Tibetan yak, but then absolutely nothing about Bart is ideal. With the blackest of black comedy and seat-of-the pants escapades, Donald Jack’s series about a young pilot is uniquely funny and compelling.Editorial reviews: “Jack does more than play it for laughs.... The mingling of humor and horror is like a clown tap-dancing on a coffin, but Jack is skillful enough to get away with it.” (Time Magazine) ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Robin Gabrielli. It's Me Again: The Bandy Papers , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 925min
As usual, the RAF top brass don't know what to do with maverick flying ace and well-known loose cannon Major Bartholomew Bandy. They pack him off to a squadron where everything's as smart as paint and the flying record barely registers, thinking it'll keep him out of their hair. But after a shaky start, Bart gets a firm grip on things - one of those things being the adjutant, who jealously guards his own private and baroquely magnificent WC. With old pal Dick Milestone, Bart reinvigorates the superbly turned-out but demoralized pilots, who start doing some serious flying and very serious damage to the enemy, in the notoriously tricky new Dolphin Camels. With the blackest of black comedy and seat-of-the pants escapades, Donald Jack's series about a young pilot makes the war to end all wars come roaring to life. ungekürzt. Language: English. Me Too: Volume V of the Bandy Papers , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 894min
Despite designing his own amphibious aircraft, the Gander - a machine almost as alarming-looking as its horse-faced maker - ex-WWI ace Bartholomew Bandy is failing to make a fortune in his hometown of Gallop. The only work he finds is flying bootleg liquor into the USA. In desperation (what else?), he stands as a local MP and in desperation (why else?), they vote him in. But after spilling the beans on a bunch of government members indulging in Prohibition corruption, Bart’s soon cordially hated by everyone up to the Prime Minister - can he really be naïve enough to believe party propaganda that the people must be told the truth? So Bart’s goose - or gander - is cooked, and the resulting mess can be summed up as whisky galore! With the blackest of black comedy and seat-of-the pants escapades, Donald Jack’s series about a young pilot is uniquely funny and compelling.“I enjoyed every word . . . terrifically funny.” (P.G. Wodehouse)“Funny. Very. Donald Jack has as light a touch with this fragile art as his hero has on throttle of a Sopwith Camel. Excessive corn is avoided in favour of wit and a delight in life.” (New York Times) ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Robin Gabrielli. Lee gathers collectively a diverse group of psychologists and intellectual health professionals to discover the risks Trump’s speech and behavior pose for democracy and our survival. In doing so, the book explores the ethical concerns of publicly speaking out concerning the mental health of a public figure. Do mental fitness experts have a duty to warn the public about the volatile behavior of a person in power? This volume explores the competing duties of medical practitioners: that of maintaining doctor-patient confidentiality and the responsibility to warn of impending damage to a third party. At the same time as views on the ethical considerations vary from essay to essay, all experts expressed their challenge over Trump’s erratic behavior, impulsivity, narcissism, and shortage of empathy. However, ultimately, Lee leaves it as much to us to determine about Trump’s mental health, asking us to think seriously about his behavior and words and to speak up if we are concerned.Note to listeners: This book is in no way, shape, or form anyhow related to the original authors or their publishing company. No Peace for the Wicked , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 714min
It is 1956, and Lizzy is working in Soho when Peace comes to stay. Peace is a beautiful 16-year-old part-Chinese girl, the daughter - it turns out - of her employer Bandy Bunion's estranged sister. Peace has been at a boarding school in the country - but, tired of feeling lonely and of being bullied, she has run away, and does not intend to go back. Lizzy, who lives above the nightclub run by Bandy and Sugarplum Flaherty, offers to take her in; she lost her own daughter - Rosie's best friend - to leukaemia two years previously and she feels a special bond with Peace. Life, Lizzy also feels, has been rather too quiet recently; but things are about to change dramatically. Bandy has got a new man in her life - a crook for certain, Lizzy thinks, especially when Bandy's valuables start to go missing. And Lizzy's got a new man, too. TC is Rosie's dad and everyone's favourite policeman. But is he interested in her? But when Peace goes missing a second time, and no one knows where she's gone, it looks as though there's only one thing to do. Lizzy asks TC to help her find Peace, and the first place they must visit is the seedy dock area in Limehouse. The home of the Chinese community, it's a very dangerous place indeed.... ungekürzt. Pecos Crossing , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 283min
Johnny Fristo and Speck Quitman, young, hardworking cowboys from Fort Concho, Texas, have worked six months - at $20 a month - on the Devil's River. Their boss, a hawk-faced cow trader named Larramore, reneges on the money he owes the boys, sneaks out of the cow camp, and heads for San Angelo. Fristo is tall and thin, his mind a hundred miles away; Quitman is short, bandy legged, and "bedazzled by the flash of cards and the slosh of whiskey". The two are as different as sun and moon but are inseparable - and now they have a mission: Find Larramore, and extract the money he owes them. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Graham Winton.
