Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk
At first glance, the title of Shostakovich’s opera seems to speak for itself: Katherina, neglected and unhappy in her marriage, commits the most heinous crime just like the Shakespearian Lady Macbeth. But Nikolai Leskov’s short novel, which portrays Katherina as a monster, was only the starting point for Shostakovich to elicit understanding for an oppressed woman whose pursuit for self-determination is suppressed by society. Through combining satiric, grotesque and tragic elements in his music, Shostakovich succeeds in striking the balance between repulsion at Katherina’s immoral acts and sympathy for her. Violence, eroticism and the paralysing boredom of Russian society in the 19th century are the founding elements of this composition. The choir and orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino conducted by James Conlon accompany tremendous soloists such as Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet, Vladimir Vaneev and Vsevolod Grivnov in the original language in this live recording.- Shop: odax

Ron Morelli ist Gründer und Kopf des Brooklyner Labels L.I.E.S. (Resident Advisor #1 Label Of The Year 2012) Von House bis Industrial in 8 TracksRon Morelli ist Gründer und Kopf des Brooklyner Labels L.I.E.S. (Resident Advisor #1 Label Of The Year 2012) Von House ünder metallische Beats bis Industrial in 8 Tracks. There's so much that could be said about Ron Morelli, his L.I.E.S. label, or the fact that his debut album comes to you via Hospital Productions, but instead, here are some words from the man himself. I'm a regular guy, enjoy a good steak, drinking beer, and occasionally a game of pro basketball, Republican talk radio... you know...all the good stuff..... The music on this record is about immediacy, pressure, monotony and stress. A great deal of the feelings conveyed within come from the fear and repulsion of basic human interaction....like if someone sitting behind you on the plane sneezes on you or being forced to shake the clamy hand of a stranger and the intimate paranoias of the mind and dealing with it or not. Not to make some deep intellectual fuck show of this, as it is not...it's just stress music...jammed out quick and recorded. Last year, I was staying in an area where all the hookers did their work...all they would do is smoke cigarettes, read the paper, talk on their cell phones, and spit. They would spit...A LOT. I would step in that hooker spit on the way home, often tracking it into the apartment building as I entered. This is where the title of the record comes from. TRACKS: 1. Radar Version 2. Modern Paranoia 3. Crack Microbes 4. Sledghammer II 5. Fake Rush 6. Director Of... 7. No Real Reason 8. Slow Drown- Shop: odax

The Woman's Torment
Dr. Otis Vorel and his wife Estelle have been struggling in their marriage. Estelle's mentally ill sister, Karen, who lives with them, is taking a toll on their romance and as such, the Vorels have been considering having her committed to an asylum. Upon overhearing their plans, Karen runs away, taking refuge in an empty house on a remote beach. But slowly her grip on reality diminishes, giving way to increasingly violent delusions and an ever-growing bloodlust... Roberta Findlay's (SNUFF) tribute to Repulsion, A WOMAN'S TORMENT is a one of a kind blend of melodrama, sex, and proto-slasher. Starring Crystal Sync, Jake Teague, and Tara Chung as Karen, and featuring a moody classical soundtrack from Walter Sear (LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH), Vinegar Syndrome presents this oddball barrage of sex and violence newly restored in 2K from it's 35mm negative, along with it's never before seen extended R rated version!- Shop: odax
