Shadow of Night
The #1 New York Times-bestselling sequel to A Discovery of Witches, book two of the All Souls Trilogy-"as enchanting, engrossing, and impossible to put down as its predecessor" (Miami Herald). Look for the hit TV series "A Discovery of Witches" airing Sundays on AMC and BBC America, and streaming on Sundance Now and Shudder. J. K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyer, Anne Rice-only a few writers capture the imagination the way that Deborah Harkness has with her New York Times-bestselling All Souls trilogy. A Discovery of Witches introduces reluctant witch Diana Bishop, vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont, and the battle for a lost, enchanted manuscript known as Ashmole 782. Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliffhanger ending, Shadow of Night takes Diana and Matthew on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782 deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them, and they embark on a very different-and vastly more dangerous-journey.- Shop: buecher

Men of Conviction , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 459min
In Men of Conviction, Lionel Ross tells the fascinating tale of three desperate and disparate young men, released from prison on the same day. They are Hussein, the Islamist preacher of Jihad; Wayne, the burglar and Dovid, the religious Jew and 'one offence fraudster'. Men of Conviction is their story over the ensuing ten years. Hussein, predictably, builds a shadowy Jihadist organisation with the intention, through terrorism, of creating the Caliphate of Britannia under Shari'a law. Wayne is determined to change his life and almost accidently finds himself the owner of a chain of Massage Parlours. By his previous standards, this is the path to wealth and respectability! Dovid, on the other hand, with the aid of his wealthy grandfather, becomes a successful property developer. The action takes place in such contrasting locations as 21st century Manchester, Istanbul, Afghanistan, Belfast and a mysterious breakaway Islamic republic. The contemporary background to the plots, ensures the airing of such issues as Islamist and Irish terrorism, religious intolerance and drug trading. The main characters are easily recognised as typical members of today's British multi-cultural society. As the cataclysmic ending approaches, the paths of the three main characters are destined to cross again in an epic and amazing ending. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Mike Jubb. Going Down to the River: A Homeless Musician, an Unforgettable Song, and the Miraculous Encounter That Changed a Life , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 357min
The astonishing story of a singer-songwriter living on the streets of Nashville who met Jesus, got sober, and found international stardom at the age of 62. Doug Seegers left New York for Nashville in search of every songwriter's dream. When he didn't find success, he fell into a state of loneliness that fed an addiction he had battled since adolescence. Soon he was homeless, playing his guitar on the street with a cardboard sign asking for money. But then he cried out to God in repentance and need, and God graciously met him. Doug then found sobriety, regained some footing, and in a miraculous moment was discovered outside a food pantry by a Swedish musician and documentarian who put his story on the air in Stockholm. Within days of the documentary airing - even though he still walked to the public library every day and acquired most of his belongings from nearby dumpsters - Doug had the number-one selling song in Sweden. Going Down to the River is Doug's inspirational story of faith, forgiveness, and the power of prayer and belief. It is also the never-give-up tale of a man who played music for 55 years without success only to become a chart-topping artist at the age of 62. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Webb Wilder. The Whistler, Collection 1, Hörbuch, Digital, 352min
The Whistler was one of radio's top mystery programs airing from May 16, 1942, until September 22, 1955. Sponsored by the Signal Oil Company, The Whistler (Bill Forman) was an ominous narrator who knew the killer's every move even before they did. The stories followed an effective formula in which a person's criminal acts were typically undone by their own missteps. The Whistler often commented directly upon the action in the manner of a Greek chorus, taunting the criminal from an omniscient perspective. One of the show's trademarks was the ironic twist endings that helped serve as a payoff for the listener. Radio performers heard in this collection of 12 episodes include: Jane Morgan, Elliott Lewis, Lurene Tuttle, Gerald Mohr and Frank Lovejoy. 5/28/44 The Middle Toe of the Right Foot 9/3/44 Practically Fool Proof 9/10/44 Local Storm 9/25/44 Married to Murder 10/2/44 Not If I Kill You First 10/16/44 The Tale the Dead Man Told 7/16/45 A Pattern for Terror 7/23/45 Let George Do It 4/1/46 Three Times a Sinner 11/25/46 Two-Year Plan 12/23/46 Next Year is Mine 2/20/49 Ticket to Paris Language: English. The City on the Edge of Forever , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 481min
The original teleplay that became the classic Star Trek episode, with an expanded introductory essay by Harlan Ellison, The City on the Edge of Forever has been surrounded by controversy since the airing of an "eviscerated" version - which subsequently has been voted the most beloved episode in the series' history. In its original form, The City on the Edge of Forever won the 1966-67 Writers Guild of America Award for Best Teleplay. As aired, it won the 1967 Hugo Award. The City on the Edge of Forever is, at its most basic, a poignant love story. Ellison takes the listener on a breathtaking trip through space and time, from the future all the way back to 1930s America. In this harrowing journey, Kirk and Spock race to apprehend a renegade criminal and restore the order of the universe. It is here that Kirk faces his ultimate dilemma: a choice between the universe - and his one true love. This edition makes available the astonishing teleplay as Ellison intended it to be aired. The author's introductory essay reveals all of the details of what Ellison describes as a "fatally inept treatment" of his creative work. Was he unjustly edited, unjustly accused, and unjustly treated? For a full cast/character list and table of contents, please visit www.SkyboatMedia.com. ungekürzt. Language: English. Among Righteous Men: A Tale of Vigilantes and Vindication in Hasidic Crown Heights , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 492min
Inside the hidden world of Hasidic Jews in Brooklyn's Crown Heights--a close-knit but divided community. On a cold night in December, the members of a Hasidic anti-crime patrol called the Shomrim are summoned to a yeshiva dormitory in Crown Heights. There to break up a brawl, the Shomrim instead find themselves embroiled in a religious schism which has split the community and turned roommate against roommate, neighbor against neighbor. At the center of the storm is Aron Hershkop, the owner of an auto-repair business and the leader of the Shomrim. Hershkop watches as the NYPD builds a criminal case against his brothers and friends, apparently with the help of several local residents, who have taken the rare step of forgoing a ruling from the local rabbinical council. Soon, both sides are squaring off in a Brooklyn criminal court, with the Shomrim facing gang assault charges and decades in prison. What conflict could run so deep it left both sides airing their dirty laundry so publicly? This compelling story takes you to the deepest corners of a normally hidden world. Features fast-paced writing and a true story with surprising twists, personal conflicts, and a tense trial Offers a glimpse in a normally sheltered and private community many see, but few know much about. Centers on an unusual man facing a universal conflict: do you do what’s simple and expedient, or do you do follow our heart, your tradition, and your faith? ungekürzt. Language: English. The Odyssey of Homer (Dramatization), Hörbuch, Digital, 467min
When this groundbreaking serialized dramatization premiered on 320 U.S. radio stations, critics were unanimous in their praise, calling it "a feast for the ears" and "a magnificent blend of scholarship and showmanship." It won numerous honors including the George Foster Peabody Award and the Pulitzer Prize for broadcasting. Never before or since has such an ambitious undertaking been attempted in public radio, and it was accomplished, not by a major network, but by a small nonprofit independent producer in Chicago. That was in 1981. It has been sitting on the shelf ever since. Now, 22 years after its first airing, Blackstone is pleased to rescue this outstanding production from undeserved obscurity. These recordings have been mastered from unaltered air-checks of the original broadcasts. Here is all the drama, poetry, and excitement of Homer brought to life by skilled actors. For the fullest appreciation and understanding, each of the eight episodes is accompanied by a brief documentary illuminating a key aspect of ancient culture or Homeric art. This is the story of a man (a hero) who inhabits three worlds: first of all, the world of his own reality (his wife, his son, his home); secondly, the world of myth in which gods and demigods sport and battle; and finally, the world of sorcerers and monsters, of magic and ghosts and unspeakable terrors. The exploration and interweaving of these three worlds contribute significantly to the delight that The Odyssey's audience has experienced throughout the ages. Language: English. Narrator: full cast.
