Alejandro Marin Band
Upon first hearing The Alejandro Marin Band, it may be hard to believe that the Spanish-language acoustic rockers came together nearly by accident. It was on a drunken night where the last thing on the minds of founders Alejandro Marin and Darryl Greer was starting a new band. Faced with the prospect of losing one band after the departure of a key member in Marin's principle project, Innertwyne, he visited Greer with a bottle of whiskey in tow to talk about his next move. After starting in on the bottle, Greer picked up his acoustic guitar and began playing a few songs written years earlier. Immediately, the Bogota, Colombia-born Marin started improvising lyrics in his native tongue over Greer's decidedly Spanish-tinged steel-string finger-style guitar work. It was a near perfect fit between Greer's songs and Marin's voice, coupled with his Colombian-folk inspired nylon-string guitar chops. The pair entered the studio in late 2009 and recorded a 5-song EP with percussionist Poib Fehr and cellist Anna Kuchkova . They later enrolled Victor Escoto, the Honduras-born former drummer of thrash metal band 7th Sunn, to play percussion and the band's live line-up was solidified. Although they're a long way from South America, the experience of the trio's music is effortlessly authentic, as groovy as it is smooth, and of course, a lot of fun.- Shop: odax
