Stubborn Cassandra Smith, or Cassie to the friends she didn't have, found herself in a tight spot. When her heiress mother kicks her out cold; after a devastating divorce already left her on her financial last leg, the beautiful brat is forced to call her absentee father for a temporary place to stay. Just until she gets back on her feet. As long as those feet stay on the ground, because she refuses to fly back to the West coast where her father lives. Gage Bennett, a long-time friend and former service member alongside her father, reluctantly agrees to drive across the country to pick her up, even though he dreads being stuck with the impertinent brat for the four day trip home. But after meeting her, and getting to know the beautiful, plump, outrageously stubborn, mouthy woman - he can't help but wonder if everyone has the heiress junior pegged wrong. As he learns her acting out is rooted in a dark past, he begins to understand more - and be able to resist her less. Driving across country with her in tow, and trying to ignore how much he begins to want her in his bed, Gage finds himself falling for his charge, and falling hard. When Cassia's father dies unexpectedly, the little girl is sent to live with Lord Alexander Surrey, as his ward. For the next ten years, she enjoys his love, luxurious lifestyle, and even his discipline, as she grows into a beautiful - albeit impertinent - young woman. Upon discovering that Lord Surrey has made plans to find her a suitable husband, Cassia vows secretly to sabotage his every attempt, as she has no desire to leave either Wenham Castle or her beloved guardian. Until she meets Graf Willhelm von Sachsen. The handsome German count is the first of Cassia's suitors to arouse her interest - and, she soon discovers, the first to stand up to her impudence by tossing her over his lap and giving her a sound spanking. Unfortunately, once her backside has been adequately reddened, Graf Willhelm informs Cassia that he has no intention of marrying such a bad tempered young lady, and takes his leave of her. Aroused and ashamed by their first encounter, Cassia finds herself unable to stop thinking about the strong, Dominant suitor. So when she is given a second chance to prove herself worthy of his interest, she promises to do anything it takes... Set in the lush countryside and luxurious castles of 15th century England, this medieval tale is one of lust, trust, discipline and love. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Beatrice Pendergast. If we can agree on anything, it's that we are not okay. Our culture is reeling from the ravages of a global pandemic, a precipitous rise in depression and anxiety, suffocating debt, white supremacy, hypercapitalism, and a virulent political animus--to name a few.But what if it's not us? What if it's . . . well, everything? What if trying to conform to a sick culture is actually making us sick? It's Not You, It's Everything is a timely and incisive inquiry into the anxious pursuit of happiness at all costs. Psychotherapist and former pastor Eric Minton claims that the pernicious melding of capitalism and Christianity means a world of competition, perfection, and scarcity disguised as self-help and self-care. Rather than shaming, silencing, or medicating away our disappointment at not having obtained the happiness we were promised, however, Minton posits a radical alternative. In an impertinent, droll, yet pastoral voice, Minton suggests that our "not-okayness" will require rethinking everything we thought we knew about God, depression, the economy, culture, education, technology, and happiness. Our angst--and that of our children and teenagers--is telling us the truth about the kind of world we've created. By naming all the ways we're not okay, we move away from fear and shame and toward love, and trust, and trustworthiness. We'll need nothing less than hip-hop, Mr. Rogers, liberation theology, and Jesus to get us there. But on the other side of our pain is a radical "okayness" that might just set us free.

The universe was shaken once again on Midsummer’s Day in 1801. The Bennet Wardrobe’s door to the future was opened in the book room at Longbourn. This time, the most impertinent Bennet of them all, Elizabeth, tumbled through the gateway. Except she left not as the grown women with whom we have become so familiar, but rather as a 10-year-old girl who had been playing a simple game of hide-and-seek.What/where/when was her destination? What needs could a young girl, only beginning to learn to make her way in the Regency, have that could be answered only by the Wardrobe? Or were the requirements of another Bennet, one who began as younger, but had aged into a beautiful, confident leader of society, the prime movers behind Lizzy’s journey? Is the enigmatic Lady Kate the force that shaped the destiny of Lizzy and her younger sisters left back in Hertfordshire? How do the visions of the future brought home by young Lizzy help shape her world?Answers to these and other questions raised in the Bennet Wardrobe series can be found in Lizzy Bennet Meets the Countess. This is a medium-length novella that considers a slice of time between the end of The Exile: Kitty Bennet and the Belle Époque in 1892 (volume two of the Bennet Wardrobe) and the beginning of Henry Fitzwilliam’s War in 1915. After Lizzy is transported back to that bucolic summer day in 1801 proto-industrial Great Britain, Lizzy Bennet Meets the Countess will carry all listeners forward to what may be considered the greatest writers’ workshop in history. T’was at the legendary Villa Diodati on the shores of Lake Geneva that Lord Byron gathered Mary Godwin (Frankenstein), John Polidori (The Vampyre) and Percy Bysshe Shelley for a vacation during the Year Without a Summer. Fitzwilliam Darcy and his wife, Elizabeth, were there to act as catalysts that would transform vague ideas into timeless speculative fiction. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Amanda Berry. We need constantly to remember that the work of God in us is the foundation of our Christian experience and faith, and as constantly do we need to remember that we never can experience the ground and spring of our Christian experience. In other words, our faith must be in the reality of the Redemption and never in what God has done in us and for us. What is experienced in our individual lives is the efficacious working of salvation, but we never can experience the God who gives us that experience. We are delighted with our experience, it is the thing we can talk about, but unless our faith is in the God who gives us the experience it ends in pietistic jargon; I try to pack all God's tremendous redemptive energy into a side eddy-"I have got all this to myself." If you know on what ground your experience has arisen you say, like Paul did, "I know whom I have believed," not "I know what I have got." The thing to pay attention to is the miracle created in human experience, not on the ground of my reason, but on the ground of the Redemption, and it begins exactly as our Lord describes-"The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the voice thereof, but knowest not whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit" (John 3:8 rv). Whenever I say "I want to reason this thing out before I can trust," I will never trust. The reasoning out and the perfection of knowledge come after the response to God has been made. If we would learn on the threshold of our life with God to put away as impertinent, and even iniquitous, the debates as to whether or not we will trust God, we would not remain under the delusions we do; we would abandon without the slightest hesitation, cut the shore lines, burn our bridges behind us, and realise that what has happened is the positive miracle of the Redemption at work-we know with a knowledge which passeth knowledge. The whole of the New Testament exposition in the inspiration of the Holy Spirit is in order that we might know where we have been placed by Almighty God's Redemption. Immediately we come in contact with Reality our thinking is based on revelation all the time, and as we maintain our relation to Reality we will find new revelations of truth flashing out continually from the word of God.
