Falling in love in a small town is tricky. Falling in love with the man who's putting you out of business is trickier.Leslie Baker, owner of Potter Lake's original hometown beauty shop, the Curl & Dye, has a muscular, handsome, six-foot-four-inch problem. Her college sweetheart, former basketball superstar Kade "KC" Cavanaugh, is back in Potter Lake following his NBA retirement, and the  shop he's opened, a slick and shiny coed salon, directly competes with Curl & Dye.Despite the "friendly" competition, KC is all too eager to pick things up where they left off so many years ago, but Leslie can't forget how he pushed her away after an intimate encounter, then dropped out of college and left her behind for the bright lights of professional ball.Though she won't admit it, time and maturity have eaten away at Leslie's anger, and her long-buried attraction to Kade Cavanaugh has resurfaced. With a vengeance. And then there's the problem of the two sides of Potter Lake at war and the town on the verge of destruction at the hands of a crook. Leslie and KC find themselves in the center of this citywide drama, and with their livelihoods at stake, the two have to stop sniping at each other and start working together. But first...can they forget the past, forgive each other, and revive what was once a budding romance? ungekürzt. Author Benjamin Lorr wandered into a yoga studio—and fell down a rabbit hole. Hell-Bent explores a fascinating, often surreal world at the extremes of American yoga. Benjamin Lorr walked into his first yoga studio on a whim, overweight and curious, and quickly found the yoga reinventing his life. He was studying Bikram Yoga (or “hot yoga”) when a run-in with a master and competitive yoga champion led him into an obsessive subculture—a group of yogis for whom eight hours of practice a day in 110- degree heat was just the beginning. So begins a journey. Populated by athletic prodigies, wide-eyed celebrities, legitimate medical miracles, and predatory hucksters, it’s a nation-spanning trip—from the jam-packed studios of New York to the athletic performance labs of the University of Oregon to the stage at the National Yoga Asana Championship, where Lorr competes for glory. The culmination of two years of research, and featuring hundreds of interviews with yogis, scientists, doctors, and scholars, Hell-Bent is a wild exploration. A look at the science behind a controversial practice, a story of greed, narcissism, and corruption, and a mind-bending tale of personal transformation, it is a book that will not only challenge your conception of yoga, but will change the way you view the fragile, inspirational limits of the human body itself. ungekürzt. To start this off I can’t do better than quote the piece by Ben Luke, resident art critic of the London Evening Standard, that appeared shortly before my time of writing, and a couple of weeks before the relevant exhibition opened at the Royal Academy:“Ai Weiwei”, Luke said, “is probably the most famous artist in the world. He has transcended the world of museums and galleries, and exerts a newsworthiness that no other artist competes with.” This statement, if one bothers to look through the kind of publicity that Ai now attracts - thanks to the digital revolution most of this is easily available with a few clicks on one’s computer - is self-evidently true. Even the very biggest art stars of the past - not Picasso in his dotage, for example, nor Andy Warhol in the 1960s during the epoch of The Factory and the New York nightclub Studio 54, nor even Joseph Beuys, at the time when his 'Organisation for Direct Democracy Through Referendum' formed the central point of reference at the 1972 Documenta 5 in Kassel - enjoyed the same degree of global celebrity. In large part this is due to the operation of the Web itself. Picasso died in 1973, Beuys in 1986, and Warhol in 1987. Though we still speak glibly of the two latter as 'contemporary artists', really they belong to a different world in terms of celebrity and how it is created. ungekürzt. Language: English. Chike the Invincible is a story book in the folktale genre that illustrates the indomitable human spirit while teaching lessons in perseverance and valor. In the mighty village of Awor lived a valiant young boy named Chike. Chike grew up under the loving care of his famous father, Ike and his mother, Chi-Chi. Ike, the powerful and rich chief of Awor, wins the biggest yam and the archery competition year-after-year during the annual New Yam Festival. The contest, held by him and the chiefs of Ifiteh, Abah, Iboloh, Opih, Ireh, and Emeri, the seven villages of the town of Orai, taught Chike the sport of archery. Chike follows in his father s footsteps and successfully competes in the archery competition. Ike falls into a trap laid by his jealous brother Obi during an archery competition and dies from his injuries. After his father's untimely death, Chike and his mother move to his mother's village. Here his uncle, Obi, declares himself chief of Awor. He banishes them from the chief's compound. While in exile, the chief of Abah annexed Awor after a border battle led by his uncle Obi. Chike called on Awor's warriors to join him and defeat Abah. With the help of Awor's warriors, Chike is victorious in the battle and restores peace. Awor villagers are happy to be free from Abah's dominion. In appreciation and gratitude to Chike for his valiance, Awor villagers installed Chike as their rightful chief. Chike the Invincible transports listeners to a village full of valor, poetic justice, and intrigue. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Elizabeth Garrett.
