On the 28th of April at daybreak the Captain and me were surprised by Mr. Christian, Stewart Young Haywood and the Master at Arms, with 21 people. Christian and the Master at Arms went into Mr. Bligh's Cabin and tied his hands behind him. Two men came into my Cabin, with muskets and Bayonets, told me if I spoke, that I was a dead man and that Mr. Christian had taken the Ship and that they was to put us onshore upon one of the Friendly Isles. - John Fryer, Master on the Bounty The Mutiny on the Bounty is one of those great stories in history that most people have heard of but few people know much about. In fact, those who think they know what happened are likely to have formed their opinions from what they saw on a movie screen than what they read in a book. Fortunately, the true story itself is every bit as exciting as anything Hollywood could dream up. In April 1789, the HMS Bounty was conducting operations in the Pacific when about half of the crew put in action a plot to take control of the ship from its captain, William Bligh. Along with Bligh, most of the rest of the crew that remained loyal to him were cast adrift while the Bounty sailed off. The mutineers sailed to Pitcairn Island, and they scattered on that island and in Tahiti before scuttling the Bounty itself, but in the meantime, Bligh and his loyal crew were managing to successfully travel over 3,000 miles and reach the Dutch East Indies. Eventually, Bligh was able to make it back to report the mutiny in 1790, and the Royal Navy sent another ship, the Pandora, to go find and arrest the mutineers. The Pandora eventually nabbed 14 of the mutineers, but as if all of that wasn't enough, it ran aground against the Great Barrier Reef. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Scott Clem. Since the dawn of man, our species has questioned its existence. All of us at one point in time have wondered whether or not we are alone in the universe. The reality of the matter is we are not. We are merely a pawn in the grand scheme of things. Humanity just so happens to be playing right into ancient lore dating back over three universe cycles. Now, you must understand that each cycle lasts over a googolplex. Also, only one species has survived each cycle thus far. This means we have three other species currently residing in our universe. Those species (in chronological order) are the Judex Sapiens, the Sagacians, and the Malentians. Now the Judex Sapiens and the Sagacians work together. The Malentians, however, work toward annihilation. Their main goal is to destroy anything the other species have created, but they have to be subtle about such ordeals, lest they be caught in the act. In order to retain obscurity, the Malentians plant directives into their target's DNA. Directives of evil that slowly blossom over time and evolve into naught but one thing: self-annihilation on a grand scale, all of which occurs on a little blue sphere we like to call "Earth". Before the war that ends humanity's dominant reign over Earth, times are tumultuous to say the very least. With the fraudulent election of President Venalis Proditor, the Union does not stand a chance, because after his election, a powder keg of chaos erupts in the torn nation, and a rebellion forms to overthrow the US government. However, what the rebels fail to foresee is that Proditor has been in alliance with the corrupt UN, who, in turn, combine forces with the NATO troops and stage a war on American soil. With the use of highly advanced nano-biotechnology, the invading forces trigger the beginning of the end of humanity.... ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Patrick M. Bedont Jr.. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The members of Space Force Fleet Command are renowned for their battle-hardened professionalism…except for one ship-the men and women who crew the ISS Griffin. Yet these misfits, screw-ups, and mutineers are Carmen Grey's only hope at locating and destroying an alien research base concealed aboard a freighter deep behind enemy lines. The Clairvoyant can fly and read minds, but even she can't imagine the harrowing secrets contained aboard the freighter, which may be the key to stopping a menace poised to sweep across the entire galaxy. She has only a number of days to find the alien ship before it is lost forever. When the situation grows desperate and when surrounded by enemies, sometimes the most dangerous adversary is the friend watching your back. The clock's ticking.

New Orleans was the largest city - and one of the richest - in the Confederacy, protected in part by Fort Jackson, which was just sixty-five miles down the Mississippi River. On April 27, 1862, Confederate soldiers at Fort Jackson rose up in mutiny against their commanding officers. New Orleans fell to Union forces soon thereafter. Although the Fort Jackson mutiny marked a critical turning point in the Union's campaign to regain control of this vital Confederate financial and industrial center, it has received surprisingly little attention from historians. Michael Pierson examines newly uncovered archival sources to determine why the soldiers rebelled at such a decisive moment. The mutineers were soldiers primarily recruited from New Orleans's large German and Irish immigrant populations. Pierson shows that the new nation had done nothing to encourage poor white men to feel they had a place of honor in the southern republic. He argues that the mutineers actively sought to help the Union cause. In a major reassessment of the Union administration of New Orleans that followed, Pierson demonstrates that Benjamin "Beast" Butler enjoyed the support of many white Unionists in the city. Pierson adds an urban working-class element to debates over the effects of white Unionists in Confederate states. With the personal stories of soldiers appearing throughout, Mutiny at Fort Jackson presents the Civil War from a new perspective, revealing the complexities of New Orleans society and the Confederate experience. ungekürzt. Lang Gore weaves a tightening and haunting tale of doomed love between Candace and Leland, while telling an intricate story of two families: one affluent and socially well placed and the other a high-spirited, free-thinking working-class family. The story is both lurid and lyrical, funny and fantastic. The cast of characters includes business barons, military mutineers, male molesters, mischief makers, woodworkers, wanton women, firefighters in the Pacific Cascades, subversive scholars, hapless hippies, and hunters of jaguars with javelins in Argentina. ungekürzt.
