The Prizefighters: Amazing Grace, Based on True Events , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 180min
November 11, 1918. As World War I comes to an end, and the United States of America having won, it left our nation strong and patriotic as our boys came home. We will never forget the pain and losses we suffered, but nonetheless, we won the war, our boys were coming home. The roaring '20s has the nation captivated. Business is good. Industry is moving forward as technology from the industrial revolution shows no sign of slowing. Things are great in America. Economy - how shall we describe it? The economy is booming toward the end of the 1920s. Having grown up post World War I when the United States was rebuilding, people saw an economy that was on an upswing in the roaring '20s. Even today, in the history books, it is something coveted by modern America. But in 1929, all that came to a screeching halt with the crashing of the stock market, and the United States entering into what now is labeled "The Great Depression". By 1931, the United States was no longer roaring. We did not have government intervention as we do today, with programs, bailouts, and welfare. In short, the nation was starving, and with no jobs, there was not much to look forward to, and hope was fading fast. Now imagine you’re in the deep South where, even prior to the depression, it was considered poorer than much of the nation. Now, imagine you are a poor black man struggling to live and feed your family. In fact, make that two. At a time long before civil rights, long before Dr. Martin Luther King, long before these two men would even be allowed to speak with me of such matters or tell their stories. Already struggling to get by when times are good, what to do when times get bad? As for these men, they would say at that time, “impossible”. They had a solution. A solution that would carry them through 60 years together as best friends. That solution was devotion, trust, love, and friendship. The other was they were fighters. And they were good at it. The Light Is Winning: Why Religion Just Might Bring Us Back to Life , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 341min
If anyone had good reason to join the league of the "Nones", the "Dones", and the deconstructionists, it would be Zach Hoag. After growing up and out of the compound walls of a Texas cult and becoming a failed church planter in one of the most post-Christian cities in America, Zach was faced with both a crisis and a choice. He loved Jesus yet questioned: if the church is such a broken system, is it really worth belonging to anymore? The viral upswing of the "spiritual but not religious" trend has cast religion as going rapidly out of style. Yet even in his own desert of deconstruction, Zach couldn't shake his desire for a spiritual home. His search ultimately led him to look behind the statistics, where Zach found an astonishing undercurrent subversively at work. The truth, as Zach discovered, is that we are in a cultural moment of apocalypse. Not an end-of-the-world apocalypse but in the very literal sense of the word, which translates simply as "a revealing". Perhaps the downtrend of Christian faith in America is just the kind of Great Revealing we need to show us who we really are as American Christians, who Jesus really is in our midst, and how we can step into the flourishing faith he has always intended for us. For anyone who is anxious about the future of the church and their place in it, The Light Is Winning rallies to an unexpected, unshakeable hope. Could it be that we've made religion out to be the culprit when in fact religion is just what we need to revive us? Could it be that our struggle for relevance must come to a necessary end so that we can get to the real? After all, isn't this the essence of the story of God that death paves the way for a resurrected, deeply rooted, flourishing faith? Such faith can be yours. The Light Is Winning will show you how. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Stu Gray. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/zond/001728/bk_zond_001728_sample.mp3. MicroPython for Microcontrollers
The "Python" programming language has enjoyed an enormous upswing in recent years. Not least, various single-board systems such as the Raspberry Pi have contributed to its popularity. But Python has also found widespread use in other fields, such as artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML). It is obvious, therefore, to use Python or the "MicroPython" variant for use in SoCs (Systems on Chip) as well.Powerful controllers such as the ESP32 from Espressif Systems offer excellent performance as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionality at an affordable price. With these features, the Maker scene has been taken by storm. Compared to other controllers, the ESP32 has a significantly larger flash and SRAM memory, as well as a much higher CPU speed. Due to these characteristics, the chip is not only suitable for classic C applications, but also for programming with MicroPython. This book introduces the application of modern one-chip systems. In addition to the technical background, the focus is on MicroPython itself. After the introduction to the language, the programming skills learned are immediately put into practice. The individual projects are suitable for use in the laboratory as well as for everyday applications. So, in addition to the actual learning effect, the focus is also on the joy of building complete and useful devices. By using laboratory breadboards, circuits of all kinds can be realized with little effort, turning the testing and debugging of the 100% homebrew projects into an instructive pleasure. The various applications, such as weather stations, digital voltmeters, ultrasound range finders, RFID card readers or function generators, make the projects presented ideally suited for practical courses or subject and study work in the natural sciences, or in science and technology classes.- Shop: buecher

Jaws (eBook, ePUB)
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The classic suspense novel of shark versus man, which was made into the blockbuster Steven Spielberg movie. The Jaws phenomenon changed popular culture and continues to inspire a growing interest in sharks and the oceans today. When Peter Benchley wrote Jaws in the early 1970s, he meticulously researched all available data about shark behavior. Over the ensuing decades, Benchley was actively engaged with scientists and filmmakers on expeditions around the world as they expanded their knowledge of sharks. Also during this time, there was an unprecedented upswing in the number of sharks killed to make shark-fin soup, and Benchley worked with governments and nonprofits to sound the alarm for shark conservation. He encouraged each new generation of Jaws fans to enjoy his riveting tale and to channel their excitement into support and protection of these magnificent, prehistoric apex predators. This edition of Jaws contains bonus content from Peter Benchley's archives, including the original typed title page, a brainstorming list of possible titles, a letter from Benchley to producer David Brown with honest feedback on the movie adaptation, and excerpts from Benchley's book Shark Trouble highlighting his firsthand account of writing Jaws, selling it to Universal Studios, and working with Steven Spielberg. Praise for Jaws "A tightly written, tautly paced study of terror [that] makes us tingle."-The Washington Post "Powerful . . . [Benchley's] story grabs you at once."-The New York Times Book Review "Relentless terror . . . You'd better steel yourself for this one. It isn't a tale for the faint of heart."-The Philadelphia Inquirer "Pure engrossment from the very opening . . . a fine story told with style, class, and a splendid feeling for suspense."-Chicago Sun-Times- Shop: buecher

Sober Up! A Collection of Featured Posts from SoberAlley.com , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 53min
From the first sip of vodka I took in my college dorm at age 17, I’ve struggled with alcohol. As I write this, I’m a 35-year-old wife and mother, and I’ve been sober for five months. That’s right. I struggled with alcohol for 17 years.Throughout those years, some times were better than others. I’d go through tough phases where I couldn’t get it right for months at a time. During other extended periods, I’d moderate successfully and think I was “fixed”.I had no issues whatsoever abstaining throughout my pregnancy and for the first several months after my son was born. But no matter what it would always end the same - with embarrassment, regret and too many things to apologize for.At the time I quit, I had been moderating successfully for quite some time. I quit on an upswing, really. It wasn’t some dramatic moment shrouded in turmoil that made me it let it all go. It was one glass of wine.My husband had taken our son to visit his mother one evening, and I curled up with a good book and a glass of wine for a little “me” time. Once that glass was over, my head began to hurt, I became fatigued for no reason, and my mind began to flip. If I finish that bottle, will it be enough? Should I grab more? Nobody will know.At that moment I realized I was so tired and ready to do something different. So, I vowed to go dry for the next 100 days and evaluate my position once complete. The rest is history.I made so many sweeping changes during that first 100 days, and I loved the results so much that I chose to make a temporary decision a permanent one. And there aren’t words to describe how much more incredibly vibrant life has become. In this manuscript, I’ll share results of my first 100 days sober, show you how to tell if your drinking is out of control, and conclude with the exact life changes I made to quit drinking without AA, rehab, or counseling.I hope you enjoy the material within and feel supported and inform ungekürzt.
