If the Church is to rise up full of people who don't give a damn about the fleeting pleasures of this life and who care only for the glory of Jesus and his kingdom, we must once again grasp what made Jesus so eminently killable. If Jesus had been born in our day, the council that condemned him would have included a couple of well-known evangelical pastors, a few outspoken pro-life leaders, a conservative-libertarian-leaning politician, and at least one Bible-thumping fundamentalist. Jesus was murdered by church people, for churchy reasons. In Blood-Bought World, Toby J. Sumpter pinpoints the raw spots where modern-day Christians have allowed respectability, comfort, fear, love, fitness, authenticity, or other idols to become "fig leaves" to shield us from the persons of the trinity. We have relegated God to Sunday-school presentations instead of following Jesus on the path to real authority and power: the cross. God's undiluted sovereignty demolishes every false human claim of autonomy. Men and women who know Jesus have no patience for a polite social club with religious jargon. The real Christian faith, delivered to God's people and driven by the Holy Spirit, is a wild, rambunctious, healing force set on the redemption of the world. That is what "being Christian" means: Hello, world! Jesus bought this place with his blood. Deal with it. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Toby J. Sumpter. I don’t want to go to heaven. Not that I’m lobbying for the other place.... (Michael Wittmer) This planet is more than just a stopover on your way to heaven. It is your final destination. God wants you to enjoy your earthly existence, and to think otherwise is to miss the life he intends for you. Exploring the book of Genesis, Heaven Is a Place on Earth gently but firmly strips away common misconceptions of Christianity and broadens your worldview to reveal the tremendous dignity and value of everyday life. Taking you from creation, to the fall, to redemption, and to glimpses from the book of Revelation, Michael Wittmer opens your eyes to a faith that encompasses all of life - baseball games, stock reports, church activities, prayer, lovemaking, work, hobbies... everything that lies within the sphere of human activity. To be fully Christian is to be fully human, says Wittmer, alive and responsive to the kingdom of God in all that you are and all that you do. Discover the freedom and impact God created you for. It starts with a truly Christian worldview. And its fruit is the undiluted gospel, powerful not only to save souls, but to restore them to a life that is truly worth living. “The paint dripped off me like a liquid coat and I inhaled the toxic fumes, sucking the undiluted scent into my lungs. My pupils dilated as I sank into the vision of a pain so absolute, it went beyond pain. It should have rendered me unconscious, it should have affected my ability, it felt like it should have killed me. As it was, the pain distracted me so badly that I was unable to focus on any other details. I painted turquoise wounds that wept turquoise blood onto the paper floor, and when I was finished, I painted more. I painted the walls, the floor, the back of the door and the boarded-up windows. I covered the room in wounds and fumes, and then I curled up in the middle of the mess, weeping my heart into my paint-covered hands.” The past few months have reduced Seraph Black to a permanent state of fight, and now, it is all that she knows. She is fighting her friends and family to go off on a suicide mission to rescue Silas, she is fighting the fragmented memories that clamor for recognition inside her mind, and she is fighting a guilt so magnificent...it might just force her to betray the very people that have sacrificed so much to keep her safe. She had asked for space, and it had been given to her in the most heart-rending of ways, leaving only one of the four brothers remaining by her side. Miro Quillan is her last hope. Without him, she may never get her pairs back. Warning: While this book is intended for a young adult audience, it is not recommended for persons younger than 15 years, due to some themes. ungekürzt. The roots of psychological conflict. 1 April 1980. Duration: 82 minutes. Has humanity taken a wrong turn? What is the root of this tremendous inward conflict of humanity? When I am trying to become something, it is a constant battle. Can the brain itself see that it is caught in time and as long as it is moving in that direction conflict is eternal, endless? Can the mind realise, resolve a psychological problem immediately? Has mankind journeyed through millennia to come to this: that I am nothing and therefore I am everything and all energy? Cleansing the mind of the accumulation of time. 2 April 1980. Duration: 79 minutes. Time is the enemy of man. Is there a beginning which is not enmeshed in time? We said nothingness is everything, and so it is total energy. It is undiluted, pure, uncorrupted energy. Is there something beyond that? Has man ever been free from the 'I'? That emptiness can exist only when there is death of the particular. Why has man given supreme importance to thought? 8 April 1980. Duration: 84 minutes. Is the 'ground' indifferent to mankind, as the physical universe appears to be? How does one find out if there is something more than the merely physical? Why is it that theories are necessary and useful in organising facts about matter outwardly, and yet inwardly, psychologically they are in the way, of no use at all? Seeking security for myself, for my family, for my group, for my tribe, has brought about division. Why has man given importance to thought as the supreme thing? If I accept I am irrational completely, I am rational. Breaking the pattern of egocentric activity. 10 April 1980. Duration: 79 minutes. What will make a human being change deeply, fundamentally, radically? Will I, as a human being, give up my egocentric activity compl ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jiddu Krishnamurti. Although this story's particular events could not have happened anywhere except in British-India, everyone will feel at home in its sunny atmosphere. The three girls who lived these adventures were completely different, but they formed a close-knit trio and shared all of each other's joys and problems. Poopy possessed a face that seemed blank to everyone but her two friends, who read it with ease. She started each day neatly dressed, but within 10 minutes the other two were pulling up her shoulder straps and anchoring her garments with safety pins. Marise had beautiful curls and a chic born of her French ancestry. She came to the rescue with expert advice when Poopy fell irrevocably in love with the first man she ever really looked at. Poopy, in turn, knew how to counsel Marise in the sedate behavior likely to win over her prospective mother-in-law. With neighbors like the dear, hilarious de Souza family ("Benny de Souza was 12, and knew everything-his conversation was an undiluted stream of solid facts."), Mr. Rogers the actor, Miss Gumm the piano teacher ("I began the Chopin with confidence, but before I had gone very far I felt a strong push and found Miss Gumm preparing to take my place."), and Mr. Andros ("that chap that goes and shoots man-eaters"), everybody and everything just a bit unexpected. The story is seen through the eyes of a girl whose name we never learn. She views her friends with love and loyalty and humor, and knows that life will never be quite the same when her girlhood is over. Editor's note: This book, though written in the style of fiction, is largely an autobiography of Elizabeth Cadell's own childhood in British-India in the early 1900s. In listening to it, her fans will gain a wider perspective of their favorite author. This audiobook has been narrated by the great-granddaughter of Elizabeth Cadell ungekürzt. Language: English. Tony is my appointed godfather. Over a period of time, he has relayed stories about himself and his family to me. To know him and to have listened to these stories, one realizes that these American people have undiluted Sicilian blood coursing through their veins. Tony is a man to be admired; To say that he is a simple man would be a conundrum. He is an imposing figure. A man in his seventies, showing determination and pride in his being. His physical appearance is most impressive, a well-dressed, good looking man with strong character lines etched in his face, exuding a commanding presence. His erect posture and carriage belies his seventy plus years. Throughout the book I have tried to use Tony's own words as much as possible. In the spirit of truthfulness, I will disclose the following fact. The first several chapters of this book are not entirely based on facts, but instead, historical probability. The Godfather’s Parents who are currently in their mid-90s in age, were being asked to recall stories from their childhoods, that their parents had told them. There tends to be too many salient details lost over time, to accurately portray second or third hand stories from over 100 years ago. So, we didn't try. As the family arrives in Monterey California, the stories are the Godfather’s. Although I can't reproduce his strong Sicilian accent, I am hoping to impart the strong Sicilian essence in his story. This book was written to preserve, if even in a small way, the legacy and incredible stories of one of the American immigrant families that came to this country via Steam Ship around the 1900s. They arrived at a time when this country was just beginning to bloom, and was then hit with two World Wars. They stepped up, served their country, and built lasting legacies here by hard work and grit. They paid their taxes and didn't ask for handouts. They didn't resort to a life of crime.  ungekürzt. Over 20 years into a career that has seen them go from everyone s second favourite Seattle group to one of the world s very finest rock bands, Pearl Jam s longevity has little to do with fashionable trends, celebrity status or looking over their shoulders. Instead the ongoing success of this mighty collective is based on raw undiluted talent, a knack for composing penetrating and gloriously anthemic music and the kind of common decency and fairness that music fans appreciate.
