Yoga: Honoring Our Sacrament with the Natural World , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 46min

The spiritual traditions of the world describe paradise as both a state of mind and a harmonious garden of plenitude. Though we think of these stories as metaphors, our health and happiness and the health of the planet are not separate, unrelated states of being. Wisdom and grace lie within the sacred matrix of nature of which we are a part. The world's spiritual traditions also describe a time of environmental destruction, social unrest, and moral bankruptcy. In this session, you'll learn what yoga says about divinity and the natural world.More than 30 world-renowned speakers joined the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, Pennsylvania for the Sacred Link Freedom from Fear conference. Topics ranging from personal growth to world affairs to sustainable ecology were presented and recorded live. This lecture is among those offered. On the faculty of the Himalayan Institute, Sandra Anderson is contributing editor of Yoga + Joyful Living magazine and co-author of the award-winning book, Yoga Mastering the Basics. She worked throughout the American West as an environmental groundwater geologist. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: uncredited.

To Bless the Space Between Us , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 265min

When we stand before crucial thresholds in our lives, observes Irish poet and philosopher John O'Donohue, "we have no rituals to protect, encourage, and guide us as we cross over into the unknown. For such crossings, we need to find new words." In To Bless the Space Between Us, O'Donohue presents an adaptation of his thought-provoking book of the same title, providing comfort and insights to illuminate the passage of our life path. Following seven rhythms of the human journey - Beginnings, Desires, Thresholds, Homecoming, States of the Heart, Callings, and Beyond Endings - more than 80 poetic and gracious invocations in this collection can be used as tools for self-transformation, as meditations for deeper contemplation, or as simple prayers for ourselves or our loved ones. With blessings such as "For Love in a Time of Conflict", "For Belonging", "For Equilibrium", "On Meeting a Stranger", "In Praise of Earth", and many more, these lyrical selections "will invite you to awaken your own power to bless and will suggest to you the secret world of healing and plenitude and providence that encircles, shelters, and guides your every breath and step". To Bless the Space Between Us features the music of Irish harpist Áine Minogue. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: John O'Donohue. To the Best of Our Knowledge: Decline of the Middle Class, Hörbuch, Digital, 52min

In this hour, income inequality has reached historical proportions in the U.S. But does Wall Street really deserve all the blame? Jacob Hacker points the finger at federal public policy decisions. He's the co-author of Winner Take All Politics: How Washington Made the Rich Richer -- and Turned its Back on the Middle Class. Hacker directs Yale's Institute for Social and Policy Studies. Then, critics called Dean Bakopoulos' My American Unhappiness one of the funniest novels published in 2011. It's a mordantly comic tale of American exasperation with runaway consumerism, big institutions and unsustainable living. Next, economist Juliet Schor believes it's possible to fix the American economy and put people back to work, but only if we revise the old American mantra of "more, more". Schor outlines a new "economy of plenitude", which includes 30-hour work weeks and 3-day weekends. After that, the tsunami of cheap credit that rolled across the planet between 2002 and 2008 was more than a simple financial phenomenon: it was temptation, offering entire societies the chance to reveal aspects of their characters they could not normally afford to indulge. Michael Lewis investigates the bubbles beyond our shores in his sadly hilarious book, Boomerang: Travels in the New Third World. And finally, does the Occupy Movement represent the middle class? Reporter Sarah Kate Kramer brings us some voices from an Occupy Wall Street protest at 60 Wall Street. [Broadcast Date: December 21, 2011] Language: English.
