Round the Horne 16: Volume 16, Hörbuch, Digital, 117min
How lovely it is to once again vada the dolly old eek of Round the Horne, the radio comedy series which ventured where few had gone before in the late 1960s. For four series, suave and unruffled host Kenneth Horne battled manfully with a marauding parade of characters, from enterprising chorus boys Julian & Sandy and warbling songsmith Rambling Syd Rumpo to booming Daphne Whitethigh and breathless thespians Charles & Fiona. In this latest collection of episodes, we listen in to an interview at the BBC personnel department; Kenneth Horne, master spy, has serious trouble when the evil Ginsberg causes people to assume the characters of animals; Julian & Sandy suggest something decadent for the garden; and, in a wartime drama, Fiona finds something lacking in her marriage to Charles. Round the Horne: Volume 2, Hörbuch, Digital, 121min
As one of the most consistently funny radio series of the 1960s, Round The Horne was always a favourite among listeners to the BBC Light Programme's comedy hour on Sundays. In Round The Horne 2 you can hear the complete version of "The Admirable Loombucket" (any resemblance to "The Admirable Crichton" being entirely intentional), the eerie tale of "The Phantom of the Bogmouth Hippodrome" (which preceded Mr Lloyd-Webber's little number by some years), and the African adventure "Lipharvest of the River". All the old favourites make their appearance, including Julian and Sandy, Rambling Syd Rumpo, Dame Celia Molestranger, and ageing juvenile 'Binkie' Huckaback, and a thoroughly irreverent time is had by all. Remembering... Kenneth Williams, Hörbuch, Digital, 129min
Wonderful highlights of Kenneth Williams’ career in this classic compilation. For more than 30 years, Kenneth Williams kept the nation in stitches with his outrageous gallery of comic creations and an effortlessly brilliant barrage of repartee and innuendo on radio and television. In Beyond Our Ken and Round the Horne, Kenneth Williams brought us the popular characters of Rambling Syd Rumpo, J. Peasemold Gruntfuttock, and Sandy (of Julian & Sandy). Remembering... Kenneth Williams wouldn’t be complete without his legendary contributions to Hancock’s Half Hour and Just a Minute. And there’s more: songs, sketches, clips from Parkinson, Just Williams, and Williams himself reading from his witty autobiography. Also featured are Clement Freud, John Betjeman, and Simon Hoggart. It’s a lifetime’s worth of laughter-making in one recording. It’s Kenneth at his campest. Language: English. Narrator: Kenneth Williams.
