Er sah das große musikalische Potential der Beatles voraus und nahm sie für EMI unter Vertrag. Von ihrem ersten Hit "Love Me Do" an produzierte er die Beatles und ließ ihre Ideen in den legendären Abbey Road-Studios zu Musikaufnahmen werden. Sir George Martin gilt heute zurecht als der "fünfte Beatle", denn er wurde zum Arrangeur und Ideengeber der Band. Und es war seine Entscheidung, Schlagzeuger Pete Best aus der Band zu werfen. Andere Plattenfirmen wie Decca, Philips und sogar die EMI-Tochterfirma Columbia hatten die Band aus Liverpool bereits abgelehnt. George Martin hörte sich dennoch die Decca-Aufnahmen an: "Ziemlich lausig, schlecht balanciert, keine guten Songs von einer sehr ungeschliffenen Gruppe. Aber irgendetwas klang interessant", erinnert sich Martin in seinem Buch. Am 6. Juni 1962 unterschrieb er für die EMI-Tochter Parlophone den von den Beatles heiß ersehnten Plattenvertrag. Von den ersten Aufnahmen 1962 über die wilden Experimente bei "Sergeant Pepper's" mit Klangeffekten und großem Orchester bis zu den Solo-Projekten von Ringo Starr und Paul McCartney nach dem Ende der Beatles schuf er reihenweise Klassiker. Ende 2006 erschien das von ihm und seinem Sohn Giles produzierte Album "Love", das Beatles-Stücke in neuem Klang präsentiert.
