The Lord’s Supper , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 154min
Thomas Lupich is the Preceptor of the International Society of Seekers of the Truth, a retired electrical designer from Princeton University's Plasma Physics Laboratory, and a taiji instructor with an interest in science and health. His major interest is Biblical truth. He, therefore, considers himself a truth seeker: an avocation that he recommends to all men. Jesus commanded his disciples to become seekers of the truth and Thomas Lupich took him at his word. Solomon had this to say, "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter." Thomas has written The Lord's Supper: Mingle with the Best to expound on the meaning and the blessings of the Eucharist. The Lord's Supper has various important layers of meaning, but much more importantly, it tells us how we can be transmuted into beings much like him. The hope of the author is to share with his listeners the Eucharist's light and its ability to transmute lives in the following way. Those that truly partake of the Lord's supper will be "mingling with the best", i.e., "The father and the son". The mingling will cause much of the best to rub off on them. What rubs off will make them grow and glow, not only in this present age, but also in the eons to come! ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: David Drummond. Reflections on Mountaineering: A Revised and Expanded Edition: A Journey Through Life as Experienced in the Mountains , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 192min
Presented as 73 narrative-style poems, some of which are rhyming and others in prose or blank verse, Reflections on Mountaineering, A Revised and Expanded Edition: A Journey Through Life as Experienced in the Mountains summarizes much of what the author, Alan V. Goldman, learned in his more than 30 years of climbing. Many of the same moral issues that confront us in everyday life are present in the high mountains, only to a sharper degree. Musing on topics such as awe and wonder, fear and how to confront it, the lure of the big mountains, as well as the role of luck, fate, and chance, Mr. Goldman makes accessible to the general public the otherwise “hidden” truths that mountaineers often experience. Further, many of the poems address the human perception of reality in the context of the meaning of life itself, and of how climbers impart meaning to the mountains by the very act of climbing them. Of course, the poems deal with the feelings evoked by striving for success in the mountains, but also cope with the trauma of defeat. Above all, there is meaning to be found in the very preparation and discipline required for mountaineering, as well as in experiencing the elation of conquest, of both the mountains and of ourselves. Mr. Goldman is a graduate of The Horace Mann School, 1975; Harvard College, 1979; and Harvard Law School, 1982. In addition to his mountaineering adventures as his avid avocation, he practiced law for many years, and is now retired. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Alan V. Goldman. The Union's Capture of New Orleans During the Civil War: The Campaign for the Confederacy's Most Important Mississippi River Stronghold , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 91min
As the officers and soldiers of the United States have been subject to repeated insults from the women (calling themselves ladies) of New Orleans in return for the most scrupulous non-interference and courtesy on our part, it is ordered that hereafter when any female shall by word, gesture, or movement insult or show contempt for any officer or soldier of the United States she shall be regarded and held liable to be treated as a woman of the town plying her avocation. - Benjamin Butler's General Order No. 28 In 1860, New Orleans was just as unique a city as it is today. It was racially and linguistically diverse, with many French, German, and Spanish speakers, and a population of white, black, and mixed-race inhabitants. Louisiana's population was 47% slave and also had one of the largest numbers of free blacks in the country. Situated near the mouth of the continent's largest river, the Mississippi, it was an international center for trade and industry. New Orleans was the sixth largest city in the country and the largest in any of the states that would end up joining the Confederacy. The volume of trade through its port was second only to New York, and the city's commercial ties with England and Spain and cultural ties with France meant that the European powers would be looking closely at how the city fared in the Civil War, especially after it was occupied by Union forces. The Lincoln administration, fearful of European meddling in the war effort, had to constantly keep European opinion in mind when dealing with the captured city, and the story of New Orleans in the Civil War is one of far-reaching political, racial, and social tensions. ungekürzt. Bible Mystery and Bible Meaning , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 399min
Thomas Troward (1847-1916) was an English author whose works influenced the New Thought Movement and mystic Christianity. Troward was a divisional judge in British-administered India. His avocation was the study of comparative religion. After his retirement from the judiciary in 1896, Troward set out to apply logic and a judicial weighing of evidence in the study of matters of cause and effect. The philosopher William James characterized Troward’s Edinburgh Lectures on Mental Science as "far and away the ablest statement of philosophy I have met, beautiful in its sustained clearness of thought and style, a really classic statement." Troward was a past president of the International New Thought Alliance. Geneviève Behrend studied with Troward from 1912 until 1914; Behrend was the only personal student he had throughout his life. Geneviève Behrend (1881 in Paris - 1960 in United States) was a French-born author and teacher of Mental Science, a New Thought discipline created by Thomas Troward. There is little known about her early life except that one of her parents was Scottish. After her husband died she traveled extensively. She studied Christian Science and met its founder Mary Baker Eddy, but ultimately left that faith. She met Abdul Baha, whose father had founded Bahaiism, and Abdul told her that she would “travel the world over seeking the truth, and when [she] had found it, would speak it out”. She later wrote in her book Your Invisible Power that she found a book of Thomas Troward's lectures. Inspired by this, she wanted to study with Troward, but lacked the money to travel to Cornwall, England, where he lived, as she was then living in New York. So every night and morning she visualized counting out twenty $1,000 bills, buying her ticket to London, traveling on the ship, and being accepted as Troward’s pupil. She also constantly affirmed to herself, “My mind is a center of Divine operations”. Then, to quote her in ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Barry J. Peterson. Aversion to Reason
Tom Quigley is a guitarist and singer/songwriter who grew up in Athens, Georgia and after living all over the country is back there as a performing base. After a career as an engineer in Silicon Valley, he has taken his 30 year guitar avocation and started writing, recording and performing full time. He has collaborated with Wilma, a favorite of Athens audiences, has opened for Nashville favorite Hoss Howard, and opened for the award winning Alathea - often playing across North Georgia and Western North Carolina. His fingerstyle approach to the instrument is a mixture of jazz, classical and folk influences reminiscent of James Taylor, Jim Croce, David Wilcox and Lindsay Buckingham. His debut CD, Aversion to Reason, was engineered and recorded at John Keane Studios in Athens where REM, The B-52s, Indigo Girls and Wide Spread Panic have all recorded discs. He loves to perform in small intimate venues and events and is busy working on his follow-on disc to Aversion to Reason. Why 'Aversion to Reason'? Tom says 'For an artist trapped in an engineer's body over a long career in corporate America, escaping the rigors and demands of rational, reasonable thought to do a CD of jazz, folk, classical, country and rock seems satisfyingly unreasonable.' Tom's approach to song writing can be summed up in the following: 'Sometimes the lyric or music just speaks through the guitar, through the melody, and you just have to get out of the way and let it be.' So be it.- Shop: odax
